Government Watch (G-Watch) and its partner-organization, Integrity Watch for Accountable Governance (IWAG), marked International Anti-Corruption Day by holding a consultative dialogue last December 9, 2020 in the town of Sibagat in the province of Agusan del Sur.
Several municipal officials joined the said gathering. This included Mr. Francisco Garlit, President of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC), who outlined the various projects that are being implemented by the local government. Also in attendance was Ms. Evelyn Mondia, Municipal Agriculturalist, who discussed the COVID-19 situation in Sibagat.
Adopted in October 2003 by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, the International Anti-Corruption Day is an annual event that aims to raise awareness on the fight against corruption and highlight the importance of the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).
Since 2011, G-Watch has been partnering with IWAG to address corruption and promote transparency, participation, and accountability in Agusan del Sur. Their most recent initiative is the monitoring of the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
