Call for Applications: Job Opening

Government Watch (G-Watch) is an independent national citizen action and research organization that aims to contribute in the deepening of democracy through the scaling of accountability and citizen empowerment. G-Watch has more than two decades of experience in citizen monitoring and action research on transparency, participation and accountability. It is currently present in numerous localities all over the Philippines with partners and allies from civil society, government and international development community.

 

G-Watch is looking for a Research Assistant who will be a core part of the G-Watch Center team that coordinates, manages and supports the national initiatives of the G-Watch network and its partners.

Responsibilities and Tasks

The Research Assistant shall have the following functions and responsibilities listed in order of priority/ focus:

  • Help gather and process data from desk research interviews, focus group discussions, consultations, participant observation and other methods planned
  • Document specific events or activities or series of events or activities
  • Provide technical assistance to G-Watch networks and partners
  • Help in organizing and maintaining/ safe-keeping G-Watch knowledge resources and database
  • Co-develop documentation plans and ways to systematize data-gathering from events, consultations, actual observation, etc.
  • Write specific parts of reports and papers as discussed/ planned out with the team
  • Rewrite/ refine specific parts of reports and papers in response to comments
  • Assist in the conduct of monitoring and advocacy activities for regular programs if time permits
  • Attend relevant events and activities of G-Watch and its partners
  • Assist in the administrative and logistical management of key G-Watch events
  • Perform related tasks and functions that support G-Watch Director-Convenor in performing his/ her tasks 
  • Do other relevant work to help ensure regular G-Watch programs achieve their objectives

Level of Effort, Timeframe and Fee

G-Watch’s management approach is fluid, adaptive and movement-based that is strongly mission-oriented and strategic. Job assignments are flexible, but are service-driven and outcome-oriented with strong emphasis on achieving excellent, relevant and meaningful results.

Qualifications

Applicants for G-Watch Research Assistant must have the following qualifications:

  • A graduate of political science, sociology, economics, philosophy or any related social science courses
  • With research and writing experience
  • With experience in collaborative work and participatory research
  • Must be willing to multi-task and travel
  • Willingness to learn and grow in the organization and can commit to the G-Watcher’s Creed (https://g-watch.org/about-us/g-watchers-creed)
  • Published works on politics, governance or related subjects is a plus
  • Masteral units is a plus
